The Ship Hotel

This photograph shows the Ship Inn.  The building was originally known as the Princess Royal Inn, named after a vessel
of that name operating in the area as a
packet ship carrying goods.  In 1860 the building was demolished and a larger
building was built in its place, this time operating under the name of the
Union Hotel; possibly in relation to America and
its upcoming civil war.  In the mid 1960s the building was renamed "The Ship", which is the building that we see today.
