The Dive

Nicknamed "The Dive" and burried beneath the
schools playing fields of Mostyn School is a WW2
Air Raid Shelter which provided cover for the
residents during the bombing campaign.

The Dive was entered through the large
corrugated arch seen in the photograph to the left.
From  there two sets of strong concrete steps
lead you down to a large iron blast door, capable
of withstanding a great impact.

Inside the dive were 3 rooms, the first being sick
bay and the other two being dormitory's.  The
Dorms were kitted out with bunk beds from one
end to the other in which civilians would lay their
children to sleep while the Wirral was bombed.

The rooms were securely built with thick
corrugated ceilings and reinforced walls.  Luckily
the shelter never suffered a direct hit or even close
one by a German bomb during the war.  As secure
as the dormitory's were, a bomb hit would have
levelled the entrance and possibly trapped the
inhabitants inside.

The building is currently used by the school for the
sport of shooting, at which i believe the school are
rather good and have a bright future for many of
their pupils.
