Mendell Primary school stands on the site of a large Victorian convalescent home built in 1862. The
house is significant as in both World War 1 and 2 it was used as a hospital for wounded allied soldiers.
The house was set in tranquil gardens with hedges and twisting ivy. The house like many other historical
buildings is was demolished shortly after World War 2. In 1959 Mendell Primary School was built on top
of the old site and in 1967 Mendell Residential home was added to the site. The house is not as
historical nor spectacular as many others around Bromborough but it is certainly worth a mention.
