The Derby Pool
The famous Derby Pool stood on Harrison Drive in New Brighton and was named the race course built in the area by Lord
Derby around the turn of the 17th Century. Centuries later the race course has long since disappeared but the remains of
the Art Deco swimming built in the early 20th century remains.
The huge pool provided many hours of fun for the locals of Wallasey and the day trippers of Liverpool. Its huge outdoor
swimming area made the pool an attraction during the summer months and was often the scene of vast over crowding.
Despite its popularity the pool was damaged several times by storm damaged and was eventually shut down due to lack of
funds to repair the building in the 1980's.
The building was refurbished many years later and some of the original areas still stand. Today the building is restaurant
overlooking the bay area and has been given the deserving name of "The Derby Pool".
